THE 2008 CHAMPLAIN VALLEY FAIR CONCERTS

See you next year at the Fair!

Aug. 29 - Sept. 7, 2009

Sunday Concert

Jonas Brothers Pump Up The Energy Level

Kings of the pop music world, the Jonas Brothers brought their incredible stage show to the Coca-Cola Grandstand on Sunday, August 31, to the obvious delight of the standing room crowd.  The three – Kevin, Joe and Nick – brought one of the most elaborate sets and routines seen at the Champlain Valley Exposition for some time. The risers, lights and effects, though, were only part of the appeal. The boys came to entertain and deliver a first-class show to round out their national tour. As one of the most sought-after acts touring today, the Jonas Brothers made sure to play their hits and give the audience a concert they won’t soon forget. Joined by Demi Lovato, the Jonas Brothers made their last stop on the “Burning Up” tour a fitting coda to Summer’s Last Blast at the Champlain Valley Exposition.

Saturday Concert

Beer For His Horses and
Cheers for the Big Dog

Toby Keith brought his “Biggest and Baddest” Tour to the Champlain Valley Fair on Saturday, August 30.  If anyone in the audience thought that Toby, the reiging country heavyweight star, would enter with a whimper, they were quickly corrected.  Flares flew as the band kicked up a storm for the entrance of the Oklahoma-bred singer, and the pyrotechnics weren’t the only things brightening the night sky.  Toby and his musical compadres delivered hit after hit.  The set included songs from his recent albums, as well as his time-tested gems.  Coming on the heels of his “Beer for My Horses” film that co-stars Willie Nelson, Toby’s appearance gave the thousands who filled the Coca-Cola Grandstand proof positive that his status as the top box office draw in the genre is well-deserved.  Appearing on the stage with Toby were up-and-coming country acts Carter’s Chord, Mica Roberts, and Trailer Choir.

 Friday Concert

The “Motor City Madman” Makes The Fair Crowd do the Wango Tango

Ted Nugent, the hard-rocking, red-meat American hero to multiple generations of fans, took to the Coca-Cola Grandstand stage on Friday night, August 29.  Nugent, who has gained additional noteriety in recent years for his hunting advocacy and conservative political viewpoints, led off his concert with the gut-kicking brand of rock n’ roll that has become his stock in trade for nearly 40 years.  Such hits as “Wango Tango” and “Cat Scratch Fever” gave Ted and his bandmates ample opportunity to show their rock licks to the camoflage-clad faithful.  Opening act Alex Winston, another native of the Detroit area, made Nugent proud with her driving performance to rev up the evening.

Danity Kane Turns the
Coca-Cola Grandstand Into a Dollhouse

Female chart toppers Danity Kane brought their MTV-worthy moves and sound to the Coca-Cola Grandstand on Monday, Aug. 25.  On the heels of their latest release, “Welcome to the Dollhouse,” the five Diddy-fed divas shook their stuff and delivered a lesson on contemporary “girl pop” to the crowd.  Current hits like “Bad Girl” and “Damaged” thumped out into the summer night, while the ladies showed that the right outfit and sharp choreography are just the cure for the back-to-school blues.

Chris Daughtrty, who rose to fame on “American Idol” and now delivers soaring, searing rock vocals to his fans around the world, brought his act to Essex Junction and the Coca-Cola Grandstand on Sunday night, Aug. 24. The “pop” absent from his present song list, Daughtry offered up a performance full of his recent hits to the appreciative crowd.  Along with their opening act, Chicago-based band Absentstar, Daughtry and crew delivered a memorable night of straight-up rock.  The Bud Light Music Series in the Coca-Cola Grandstand continues on August 25 with Danity Kane - both concerts sponsored by 95 Triple X.
