2009 Vermont Flower Show
March 6, 7, 8

Dear Flower Show Friends,

On behalf of the VAPH Board of Directors, I am writing to update you on a significant change for the future schedule of the Vermont Flower Show. As the sponsoring organization for the Vermont Flower Show, VAPH (Vermont Association for Professional Horticulturists) has decided to move the show to a biennial cycle, with the next show starting in 2009. There will be no show in 2008! We have arrived at this decision after a tremendous amount of thought, research, discussions and debate.

A biennial cycle will enable the flower show to:

  • sustain and increase the level of volunteer effort crucial to producing such a monumental event
  •
ensure the continued financial success and stability of the show, which will also benefit participating exhibitors
  • meet the increasing high expectations of the public for this show to educate and inspire and "wow!"

With more time between shows for planning and implementation, there will be less strain on our volunteers, contributors, and our organization as a whole. Furthermore, this will provide an opportunity for VAPH to explore and implement a broader statewide educational effort, not only for our members, but for the public as well.

Where do we go from here? Naturally, we will not be sitting still. We will be pursuing educational efforts for 2008, and assembling a core committee to begin planning for 2009. Over the next few months we will be communicating with you with updates on the show plans and soliciting ideas to improve the show.

In the meantime, don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, comments, or new ideas. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Tim Parsons, President
VAPH Board of Directors

The Vermont Flower Show is presented by the Vermont Association of Professional Horticulturists (VAPH), a non-profit statewide organization, dedicated to educating and increasing awareness of the growing industry of horticulture (wholesale and retail nurseries, greenhouses, retail garden centers and florists, landscape and tree services). The VAPH Board and Flower Show Committee work thousands of hours in creating a vibrant and colorful community-wide event that educates, entertains, and inspires.

The theme for this year’s spectacular event is “Walk on the Wild Side,” and will celebrate how gardens in Vermont embrace both our natural communities (woodlands, wetland, and valley meadows) and our strong cultural heritage. This year’s design for the three-day show explores the intersection between wilderness and human culture. Come experience spring in March and smell the flowers and join us for a “Walk on the Wild Side!”

Highlights of the 2007 Vermont Flower Show:

  • 100 exhibitors and non-profit displays, featuring the newest gardening products and services.
  • Lavish landscape displays overflowing with the sights and smells of spring, featuring garden designs and farm and animals from Vermont.
  • Keynote Presentation with Bill Cullina, the Nursery Director of NE Wildflower Society
