the Champlain Valley Fair
Traditional Horse, Pony & Oxen Pulling
Horse & Pony – Monday, Aug. 31 - Wednesday, Sept. 2
One of New England’s favorite traditions, pulling continues to be a mainstay at fairs and field days, including the Champlain Valley Fair. There are multiple classes of horse pulls over various distances, including pony pulls and free-for-alls. Visit the pulling ring on the north side of the parking lots starting at 10 am Monday through Wednesday.
Gymkhana
Friday, Sept. 4 at 12 noon
“Gaming” horses is a fast-paced western riding event. The most well-known competition is Barrel Racing, with several other races to test both horse and rider. Speed, agility and handling are essential to take home the top prize money.
4-H Show – Horse Show Ring
Saturday, Sept. 5 at 8:45 am
More than 40 4-H members and their horses compete in fitting and showmanship. Also featured are equitation, a 4-H Horse Project, and a Judging contest.
VHSA Show – Horse Show Ring
Sunday, Sept. 6 at 8 am
Vermont’s premier horse event showcases some of the best horses and riders in the area. Riders compete in traditional English and Western style riding and driving. Classes for all ages, abilities and breeds.
Show Horse Center
The beauty and elegance of show horses is on display
every day of the fair in the agricultural area. A variety of horses is featured, including Oscar, one of the stars of the film “Hidalgo” from Vermont screenwriter John Fusco.
Plus, see the world famous Budweiser Clydesdale 8-Horse Hitch in their special tent, and in
the daily parade at 5 pm!
